Convenience, good value, and friendly service. Closest place to get a good bagel, love the tomato basil! Cream Cheese is more than generous, with lots of varieties, although I prefer plain. I agree with previous yelpers the staff is more friendly the older they are with a few exceptions of the high schoolers. Do watch to make sure hands are washed between collecting cash and making food. I saw this happen once and immediately brought it to the attention of the manager. She dealt with it immediately.

Unfortunately I will never be going to this specific Mister Bagel again and here's why... I should have spoken up with this first incident, but it was more of an afterthought. On this particular morning I ordered my usual, watched, and waited for my wheat bagel with low-fat olive cream cheese. It's not like they make the bagels behind a wall or cover-up, which is a good and a bad thing. Customers see everything the employees do when handling their food. This included a band-aid in the open air (NO GLOVES or anything covering it) on a finger that's touching customer's food. I work in the restaurant industry, but you don't need to to know that it is unsanitary and completely disgusting. I gave them another chance to redeem themselves one morning before work (because it's SO convenient to the office I'm interning with). I go in, order my usual again and witness the employee taking cash and swiping cards, then returning to smearing cream cheese on bagels without so much as a dollop of hand sanitizer. I actually witnessed this specific employee washing a knife, but not her hands that had just taken cash from a customer. Both experiences were too much for me. South Portland Mister Bagel if you see this, please go over sanitary procedures with your employees! Based on a few other reviews, I am not the only customer who has felt disgusted.

As a dorm-warming present my roommates parents gave us a gift card to Mister Bagel. We stopped by this location Friday morning at 10:30 after class and were exponentially disappointed. First of all, they only had one bagel left. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches, bacon egg & cheese on a croissant and we left thoroughly disgusted by the experience. The eggs were cracked into a pam coated Tupperware container, it's last washing unknown, scrambled with a dirty plastic fork and put in the microwave to cook. The employees then assembled the sandwiches with their bare hands. I never witnessed them wash them once, even after handling money or food. We then went to pay for our food with a gift card, however the staff didn't know how to use a gift card for checkout. I will not be returning to this Mister Bagel location. We left very disgusted and never ate our sandwiches. The store itself was outdated and generally just looked dirty. It was a disappointing experience in every sense of the word.

I have fond memories of Mr. Bagel from my childhood in Maine- which were basically erased last weekend after an experience in Mill Creek that bordered on the absurd. My sister and I went in last Sunday morning, understanding it was the weekend and it would be busy. We left our mother in the minivan with the three children (and a movie). About 15 minutes into the line our mother called my sister 'I'm watching these kids through the window and they're pathetic-come get in the van and I'll take you to the one on Forest Ave.' ...we laughed and stayed in line. Five minutes later we were at the front of the line where I ordered three breakfast sandwiches (one without cheese for my allergic kid), a small coffee, bottled water and a Powerade. I poured out two cups of coffee that had been sitting there for hours- the normal brews were all empty. The child making the sandwiches confirmed the order several times before making the entire order wrong (wrong bagels, they all had cheese yada yada)-I wish I had watched him more closely and checked before we were half way over the bridge...and it wasn't cheap- over $20..turns out Mom was right.. never again Mr. Bagel.

I usually like the Mister Bagels but this one seems like an afterthought. The staff are great but the quality is severely lacking compared to the one in Westbrook as is the food selection. This one happens to be on my way to work and the coffee and bagels beat Dunkin' Donuts so I will probably still go back for the convenience.

This Mister Bagel doesn't stand out from the other southern Maine locations, but it is a good place to stop for your morning breakfast if you're in a hurry but don't particularly like dealing with Mill Creek's Tim Hortons or Dunkin Donuts. The staff is friendly and don't try to rush you through your choice of cream cheese (apple cinnamon? yes, please!) and bagel (pumpkin, definitely! oh, but what about french toast? and I do love a good blueberry...). Maybe by the time I come back, I'll decide what I want.

I've been going here since my high school days, one of the older ladies who works there lives down the street from my mother and is always incredibly nice to me whenever I go in. All of the older women who work here are so nice, now that I think of it. The teenagers who work on the weekends are slightly less pleasant as they often are busy gossiping or talking about the adventures of the previous nights to really be friendly. I always go with an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese, but be sure to ask them to go easy on the cream cheese, or you'll wind up with enough to cover 5 bagels. In the fall they also have a yummy pumpkin bagel with apple cinnamon cream cheese that is to die for. I think bagels and cream cheese are about 3 dollars, but they're definitely the best I've had in Portland. Way better than the alternative, which would probably be Dunkin Donuts.

My wife and I used to be a huge fan however over the course of the last year or so I'm fairly certain the bagels have both become notably smaller with significantly less cream cheese. Quality is still better than a chain coffee shop, but not by leaps and bounds. Will be visiting the other local bagel joints in the area in the future.

Absolutely Filthy While I was waiting in line, I looked around at the the broken counter stools capped with milk crates, the ventilation units on the ceiling dropping dust onto the crem cheese line, and the splatter all over the walls. GROSS!!! I had to leave. I have never seen a place this dirty in an otherwise well-maintained shopping plaza...I just don't get it. It is a health risk just walking in the door.

They may be nice, but they're dirty. I've seen the young guys pick up food off the floor, throw in the garbage, and continue to butter bagel. I've seen one cough in his hand, and then continue to butter a bagel. The older women did not even wash her hands after dealing with money. Where's the health department?

I have a been here for lunch a handful of times, and always order the veggie sandwich on wheat with hummus. Unfortunately, I have ordered the same thing from other Mr. Bagel's in the area, and they were much better. The service here is slow. This is disappointing, because usually in the morning or during lunch, people are in a rush. The bagels however are delicious!

The best bagels in the area and their cream cheese selection is great. They make them all themselves and offer special seasonal flavors. The pumpkin is to die for!

Best bagels ever. Mr. Bagel not only has a wide variety of bagels, they have the most delicious cream cheeses ever. Over the years, I've tried just about every bagel-cream-cheese combo, and my favorite is the onion bagel with light veggie cream cheese. They also serve sandwiches and wraps here, and they have a selection of baked goods, but nothing hits the spot like a fresh bagel.
